Okay, so the title is really nothing new under the son. There is not too much that can really throw me off my game, but Mal sent me a headline today that just made me completely stop working. I mean, I lost all thoughts and regard for the job / project I was working on. I sat in awe as I read the headline and viewed the story.
I couldn’t imagine what Alvin, and in my case today, Charlie, might have done to my backside or better yet, shortened my lease on life and extended the long sleep policy six feet under had this happened to Mal and I at the age it happened to the two individuals in this story.
What happened to the days of just going outside to play until the dog gone porch or street light came on? What happened to playing simple G-Rated video games? What happened to kids respecting their parents and any authoritative figure? What happened to churches, communities, and families raising kids collectively? Where has our society gone? To the birds?????
Read the following story and you’ll understand my position and tone I’ve taken in writing this post. I just don’t get it! I’m twice this youngsters age and I’m, well, safe to say we are very much fearful about having kids. It is not the fact that 1) we aren’t married, 2) we have a place to live and call home, 3) we have good paying jobs, and 4) we’re very much committed to one another and our future…. but geez, why on earth would a 12-year old child want to experiment with ‘fire’ if you will?????? Are the parents at fault? Is our over-sexualized society at fault? Who is to blame, and more importantly, how do we as a whole get beyond ‘babies having babies’????
Check the story out about lil’ Alfie and let me know your thoughts… I commend the lil’ guy for not running to hide, but this didn’t have to be. Is this the norm now? Am I crazy???
