A day off…  Well, its Sunday afternoon and we’ve had breakfast and went shopping rather looking for our new bedroom furniture.  In our first store, the customer service wasn’t too hot as we had been in the store for 5 minute before anyone said anything to us.  Even then, we had to go and track down a sales rep.  Even if we wanted to buy at that very moment, we Read more »

Like most people, we get the “what happened” or “what is the latest on the house” or “how is the house coming along”…

Well, here we go…  We were to suppose to work on hanging all doors, build/install master closet, install baseboards, and grouting the remainder.  Hmm… long way from it, but we did get some things done this weekend.  Of course we made our trip to Lowes and Home Depot on Friday night and loaded up on the supplies we would need for Saturday and Sunday projects… like two kids in a candy store!  :)

Well, last night we finally got the washer/dryer moved, and man, it was cold but we got’er done!  :)  Now, I only have to grout/seal the washroom, install baseboards, and bi-fold doors and then we’re free to connect.  Hopefully we’ll be done with washroom by the weekend (wishful thinking).  :)

Another thanks to Brian for making time last night to help us almost empty the apartment.  There are only a few kitchen items and clothes to pick up.  Woohoo!  After those items get picked up tonight or tomorrow, we’re done and moved in, or at least our items are transported and awaiting their moment to be unpacked.  :)

Other than this, we’re just twiddling our thumbs wondering what to attack next…  (just kidding)  There is much to do like get back on the Master Bathroom Vanity, Closet, and Shower! :)

Stay tuned for this week’s challenging project(s)…

From the time we decided to do tile, I didn’t know quite know what I was getting myself into.  But nearly 1200 pieces later, 10 bags of mortar/thinset, 1 bucket of premixed mortar/thinset, an amazing tile saw, no knee pads, improvising like crazy on some wicked cuts, bloody at times yet sore, callused hands, and a back crying out for it to all be over: PRICELESS!  It was done with great honor when installing the final pieces of tile in the kitchen, washroom, entrance, and small living closet last night.

In some ways, it was the marking of another major milestone completed.  But then again, we have the laborious task of grouting now, which takes roughly 8-9 hours to complete all 3 process steps for a 400 square foot area with a team of three.  The only spaces remaining that need to be grouted are the dining room, rest of the kitchen/breakfast, entrance, one tile in small living closet, washroom and half bath… and then were done.  Ha, easier said than done! :)

But no, in short order, we’ll attack the washroom first, grouting it, then cutting, painting, installing and caulking baseboards, and maybe even installing doors. Afterwards, we’ll be ready to hook up the washer and dryer and that’ll be another project completed.  YAY!  So this will all happen sometime within this busy week or definitely by the weekend as Mallary will want to wash before leaving to go back to the cold New Hampshire way of life for a week of training.  So me and the dogs will be back to roughing it for a week!  :(

And as a sidenote, I’ve had to get accustomed to wearing my house shoes… the tile is extremely cold to the bare skin of my footsies and tossies… :)  Oh well, at least we have the tile completed!  <Sigh of relief>

Knees and back rejoicing for now…
